When I posted this, I didn't realize it would be about to drop off the main page below. But in the talk about Leslie Odom Jr. who could also handle the demands of the musical "Purlie" besides the non-musical, I was thinking about this and wanted your feedback, too.

I'm thinking of other people who did non-musical versions of plays who could have done the musical. I'm thinking Shirley Booth, wonderful in the film of "The Matchmaker" would have done equally as well had she done "Hello, Dolly!" again playing Dolly Levi. She had starred in at least 4 musicals on Broadway. Of course, Lila Kedrova did both film (ok, not the play) of "Zorba the Greek" and the musical stage "Zorba" revival. Any others you might think of? I guess if we opened it up to musical films, Audrey Hepburn could have played "Gigi" as a musical on screen (if she had been dubbed) like she had done the non-musical, but in that case she turned the opportunity down.
