Had to look up Ms. Stone on IBDB, and she had in fact played Amy in a revival of "They Knew What they Wanted", as well as the musical "High Button Shoes", so maybe she'd been able to do Amy in "Most Happy Fella".
Paul Muni had played Kringelein in an out-of-town tryout of the musical "Grand Hotel" years before it came in with many changes under Tommy Tune's direction. That role, at lest when done by Michael Jeter, is a far cry from Tony in "Most Happy Fella", one of the more demanding ones vocally when done right -- usually done by legit opera singers. |
