Michael Redgrave played the title role in the 1957 TV musical version of Ruggles of Red Gap opposite Jane Powell. His singing was quite good IMO. In fact I listen to the soundtrack CD regularly. Powell, of course, is glorious singing several of Jule Styne's songs, especially "A Ride on a Rainbow".
