Then I guess you could add Judi Dench; she played Lady Bracknell in one of the film versions (perhaps she did it on stage, too?) who could handle "Ernest in Love" as well, as she done quite a few musicals. Also Michael Redgrave, who played Jack (Ernest) Worthing in the 1952 film version (and he sang a bit of Verdi in the bathtub at the beginning), reputedly had a very good singing voice and was considered for the original Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady"; he conceivably could have been in "Ernest In Love" as well years ago. Also, Redgrave did play Macheath in a production of "The Beggar's Opera" which role does include some singing. |
