Hey, Regina Resnik was born in da Bronx. :)

Prince tried to get Edith Evans to play the role. He first tried to get Helen Hayes to do the tour, and for a while it seemed like perhaps she might, even though she had by then officially retired from stage work because of her asthma (or, if not asthma, severe allergies to dust).

I had long wanted to see Stritch in the role, but when she did play it, I had pretty mixed feelings about what she did. But I've seen a few American actresses do quite well as Madame Armfeldt in productions in less major venues.

"Liaisons" is such a difficult song to learn. Lansbury sometimes got a bit lost, as, of course, did Strich. And the first time I saw the original production, 10 months into the run, Gingold briefly got a bit lost, although she was fine the other two times I saw the production.
