| A Madame Armfeldt could make them rhyme by using the schwa or the short i in the final syllables of liaisons and raisins. Both would be standard pronunciations for raisins but nonstandard for liaisons, but lots of rhymes in lots of songs in musicals require nonstandard pronunciations to work. I guess Sondheim thought it was fine as he never seems to have asked an actress to do that. | |
