In 1988. there were plans for a Broadway Night Music revival that Hal Prince was to direct. Lee Remick was to play Desiree, and Claudette Colbert was sought to play Madame Armfeldt. The producers were to have been Robert Fryer, Aaron Spelling and Douglas Cramer. One news item said that Remick was not available and that they were trying to get Audrey Hepburn, but later news items again reported Remick. I'm pretty sure the original set was to be recreated, and I'm sure Florence Klotz was again to design the costumes. I think perhaps the production was delayed because of Remick's cancer.

So the Los Angeles production would have given Remick the chance to at last play Desiree.
