Really loved this extremely Felliiniesque revival. The show is in constant motion like a dream that keeps transforming. Carolee Carmello steals the show as the producer and her Follies Bergere number stops the show. But in some ways that number seems like from another show. It features the only color in the entire production design. I have always liked Elizabeth Stanley, and her Luisa is pitch perfect. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is wonderful as Guido's mother and she is used in amazing ways. Shereen Ahmed, who I am not familiar with, was an alluring Claudia and her vocals shined as did everyones'. I was a little disappointed in Michelle Veintimilla's Carla and the staging of the Call from the Vatican number could use some rethinking. I missed "The Germans at the Spa", but if I recall it was also cut from the Antonio Bandares production. Although Steven Pasquale may be Italian he doesn't resonant that to me, but he was a fantastic Guido and his vocals were magnificent. The production benefits from the casting of Charlie Firlik as Little Guido. He couldn't be more delightful. Thank you Andy Blankenbuehler for your inspired rethinking of one of my favorite musicals. DID I MENTION THE SCORE and ORCHESTRA? Heavenly. Musical Direction by Lily Ling was Outstanding!
