Actually, I'm speaking of the actual book scene, not the musical numbers. We don't learn anything new about her or her relationship with Frank that we didn't already know.
In general, Gussie has a lot of dialogue throughout the show and I feel that much of it is unnecessary. Having never seen the show and only knowing the score, I was surprised at how heavy the book is. There are some very long scenes that weighed the show down, most of them involving Gussie. (Again, no disrespect to the actress who is wonderful and has an amazing number which opens Act 2). |
