Given that I have seen truly countless musical theater fans find their way only to the revival or most recent recording of a show and never look further... yes, I do think it's diverting. That doesn't mean it's bad, but I do think a lot of casual fans have little time to listen to multiple recordings, the one they find first is often the only one they'll ever really listen to or have listened to.

I also have to admit i did not see Encores Dear World live, but from the recordings I've seen, as wonderful as I'm sure it was, I would not personally choose Donna's performance of the score over Angela's to people new to it...

So while I would love another recording of this score... I'm also happy to know that anyone who finds this score with find it under the incredible musical direction of Donald Pippin, with that extraordinary Angela performance, the rest of the superb cast, and those orchestrations.
