Revivals and other Secondary Albums

I agree with those that say that many musical theater fans don't go beyond a single recording, so whatever they find first is all know. From personal experience, I have many "superfan" friends who have listened to multiple versions of the same show, yet almost unanimously, they prefer whichever they heard first. I'm sure there's a name for that.
In my case, I like to hear revival and studio recordings not just for the different interpretations, but because the second (or third, or film soundtrack) often include alternate or additional material, including verses, dance music, and sometimes entire songs. For a few shows for which I have many recordings (including "Follies," "Candide," and "Annie Get Your Gun," among others), I have devised my own playlists to make the "perfect" version: most complete, with best performances.
