For a few shows for which I have many recordings (including "Follies," "Candide," and "Annie Get Your Gun," among others), I have devised my own playlists to make the "perfect" version: most complete, with best performances.
Of those 3 shows, the only one that has *essentially* remained the same (I'm talking music/arrangements/orchestrations) is Follies, outside of the 1987 London additions. Candide, of course, is a famous jumble. But even with a more straightforward traditional show like Annie Get Your Gun, the arrangements/orchestrations for the 1966 revival are different than the original 1946, and of course that goes even more so for the 1999. Especially the dance arrangements among all 3 versions. So IMO making a "perfect" version is nigh to impossible, when the 3 scores don't match up. |
