Yes - it's great that we have complete recordings of both the 1946 and 1966 Annie Get Your Gun scores. Most of us, if we've performed or seen the show live, will undoubtedly be more familiar with the 1966 version, as that was the only available rental version for many years (until the 1999 revival was also released), but the original 1946 arrangements are very nice to hear as well.
It's funny - my first real exposure to the show was being in the company for a youth production back in 1978. In learning the show for auditions, I had the original cast recording (1946) and the available published score (1966) and was very confused lol. I had yet really to learn about what went into redesigning a revival score - new arrangements, new orchestrations, songs taken out, songs added in, etc. It was a great education. ;-) As we got into rehearsals, I was able to borrow the 1966 LP from someone else in the show, and then saw how things matched up with the score I had. |
