Actually, there have been some fairly comprehensive recordings of the Love Life score. Painted Smiles and DRG recorded most of the musical numbers from the show, although you have to buy something like 5 CDs to get everything. The performances are very good, and I recommend it for fans of the show. However, it is not a studio cast recording -- the songs are to be found among compilations on the various CDs. In Feb., 1996 Opera North recorded the entire show. It was never released commercially, but fans (like me) were able to obtain it by contacting some non-profit organization that had access to the recording and giving them a donation. However, it's the entire show, including instrumental music, dialogue, sound effects, everything. It's a chore to get through. Capriccio years ago did an OK recording of The Firebrand of Florence with Rodney Gilfry. It is what it is. I do enjoy listening to it once in awhile. However, I wish that the concert version in 2009 with Victoria Clark and Terrence Mann had been recorded and released on CD. That performance was delightful. |
