Swept away was not for Broadway

I saw the last performance of swept away today and all the actors got big ovations when they entered the stage and after many of the numbers. The songs were fine and the actors were excellent and the set was really fantastic but the story and the subject matter is one that doomed its possibility for success on Broadway. The show might have had success off Broadway perhaps at the New World stages. There were no speeches at the end the actors just hugged each other and left. It is always sad when a show of merit closes on Broadway.
