Yet Sweeney Todd is one of the darkest shows ever written and keeps coming back. I know it’s Sondheim. When I first saw the original production of Sweeney, I hated it. Only years later was I able to enjoy it.
Swept Away does have an act of cannibalism in it but it ends with main character finding some kind of salvation through self-acceptance at his dying moment. And while it’s true there were negative comments posted early on, that doesn’t explain the sold out houses for the past three weeks. |
