I bought a copy of the play Auntie Mame years ago and skimmed through the pages while watching a DVD of the '58 film. There are considerable differences in both dialogue and even some plot points between play and film. I have been a fan of the film for well over 60 years and have watched it countless times. I still find it very funny, witty, and beautifully acted.

I've never seen a performance of the stage play. I don't think it's ever been done anywhere in my area (Chicago and its suburbs) since 1989, when I began going to the theatre on a regular basis.

All I was trying to say in my post is that IMO the choices made by Comden and Green are better than the ones I read in the play's text -- funnier, less raw, less explicitly sexual (on occasion), less offensive, and more palatable for a wide, general audience. I think they make the character of Mame warmer and less dismissive toward Patrick, but again this is just my opinion.
