There was nothing bothersome in what you wrote. I was a little concerned that I shouldn't have used the word offensive in my post. Actually before I responded to your remark, I skimmed through parts of the play again just to make sure I was being accurate. The differences are significant. Again I think Comden and Green's word choices are definitely less raw, less explicit, and probably more appropriate for a wide audience. For me anyway, that made them funnier and more deliciously witty, but again that's just IMO.

Nevertheless, I would kill to actually see a stage production of Auntie Mame, just to see firsthand if it would still work. I've been pleasantly surprised in recent years after seeing productions of old plays like Bad Seed and Tea and Sympathy, both of which received considerably revised (even censored) film adaptations, that the original plays were still quite relevant and packed quite a wallop even today.
