| Why didn't Larry Owens continue with the production of A Strange Loop? I'm listening to the off-Bway version and it seems like much of the material was crafted for Owens' unique abilities. For example, the Tyler Perry song where Usher plays all of the characters in a Perryesque send-up has never worked with subsequent actors and it feels looooong without a dynamic performance. I didn't see Owens in the show but saw productions both on Broadway and in LA. I think those actors brought a more innocent quality to their performances but never matched the heights of Owens on the recording. | |
