It's a large conversation that we're all trying to figure our way through, because the work we do is incredibly vulnerable, and none of us are paid enough, and the ethos in the past was just "suck it up", but that can be quite damaging.

The reference to "Angels" makes me think of Joe Mantello saying that he quit acting for 20 years after that show, because he couldn't handle the audience hating him for the entirety of "Perestroika". There's so much emotional and psychological baggage that is carried by an actor on stage, and very little support for what they should do with that once they are off stage.

And that's not even to get into what we all carry behind the scenes as writers, directors, music directors, designers, producers, and artistic support staff. Every day, I have to dig deep into my therapy just to be a positive member of a collaboration, and it would be so wonderful if we actually talked more openly about these facts of our art as a community.

But we're making strides, and I think a lot of people, like you, are participating in this process with the right spirits and intentions.
