Thank you for these insights. Wow. I’m assuming the scene described was when there was a white character (played by a black actor) pounding/semi-assaulting on the protagonist (a black actor playing a black character). I think the scenario may even had been that the two characters were acting out a rape fetish. Oy. I can see where he might be triggered. And he was probably a very young person. Probably hadn’t worked out any of those things for himself.

Maybe they super-seriously needed an intimacy coach. Wasn’t that the whole point of intimacy coaches? Maybe they had one but it wasn’t enough.

I’m reminded of how people say Vivien Leigh’s personal issues were exacerbated by her playing Blanche DuBois and that she never got over it. Actors NEED to work hard to maintain mental health all the time, anyway. And if they’re deemed ‘difficult’ because they get so close to their characters’ traumas….well, there are consequences. It’s a challenging vocation.
