I'm curious why you think this Cats doesn't "trash the original", but the Daniel Fish Oklahoma did?

How is this any different besides that you liked what they did to Cats and didn't like what they did to Oklahoma?

Cats is literally conceived and written to be about actual cats, and is adapted from a book of poems about actual cats... and that is what the original gave us. This is literally not about cats. I haven't seen it yet so I don't know how differently the songs are arranged or performed, if they still sound like the original Cats score of if they've been changed notably. Maybe that's the difference? They did a lot of re-worked the original score/sound etc for Fish's Oklahoma, which you could argue changed it to a different show even if it were still generally the same setting and characters and plot, which can't be said of Cats: The Jellicle Ball.
