| Sorry to say, I think you are wrong. Cats doesn’t have to mean literal feline creatures on four legs. Like great poetry and great art, cats can be a metaphor. In this case, cats means something very specific to this production that is inherently faithful to the original text. It is very much about cats. Just not the cats you want literally portrayed. Instead, it’s about a group of people who have a language and rituals that define themselves as “cats.” It’s a total triumph. |
