I rememtber at the time that some of the voters in the song academey were asked about the Saturday Night Fever snub and what kept coming up was an appreciation for music but an absolute confusion about the lyrics. Whether it is the sound mixer's fault or the diction of The Bee Gees, the lyrics of many of their songs were difficult to make out. Personally, for years I thought 'More Than A Woman' was 'Bald Headed Woman".And when you do look at the actual lyrics... "Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk I'm a woman's man, no time to talk Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around Since I was born And now it's alright, it's okay And you may look the other way We can try to understand The New York Times' effect on man Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin' And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive Oh, when you walk" In Streisand's recent memoir she talks about working with Barry Gibb and appreciating his music but feeling like his lyrics were non-linear and confusing. She breaks down the song, "Woman in Love" line by line, showing how confusing the song actually is. I'll go against popular opinion and say that I don't think the Bee Gees were great lyric writers, |
