Surprisingly, however, a great number of people seemed to have been entertained by it. It wasn't The Music Man, just as the Platt Guys and Dolls wasn't Guys and Dolls, but people unfamiliar with the Music Man didn't seem to notice and while Guys and Dolls might live to see another day, Music Man is ruined forever. An elderly Marion. A gratuitous and incongruous tap dance. A Harold Hill who refused to allow himself to show a nanosecond of the qualities of a con man. Cuts that made plot and character relationships incomprehensible. A cheesy set. Phony on-stage breakups. Etc. Etc. | |
