1) you never saw the show
2) you didn’t like the movie
3) you apparently don’t like Mr Goldblum
but more importantly
4) it’s the first half of a story

When the whole thing has been told I dare say even some of his naysayers will understand why he was cast. Now, you may decide even then that you don’t like him, that he did nothing with the role, and that they were not four but forty actors you think would have been better.
But that wasn’t your question.
Your question was: “WHY?”
And I would suggest it’s impossible to fully and satisfyingly answer that without getting to the end of Wicked Part 2 - which, to say anything more, would tread on spoilers territory (a ridiculous thing to have to say on a Broadway board about one of the most popular Broadway shows of all time that’s been running nearly a quarter century)

Anyway come back this time next year and let us know how you feel then.
