Didn't I see somewhere today that Halstead also has Covid (or perhaps the standard employer euphemism for it)? Assuming I didn't dream that (even though folks here seem unaware), it obviously explains why they went with a hail Mary solution with Mason. I also think that the idea of proceeding with Mason probably had a lot more to do with the prospect of someone else's outrage had they just cancelled. In my experience, standbys and understudies (who may well have had almost no rehearsal at this point) are not normally raring to go. No one wants to go on unprepared and I would not imagine they would want to go on script in hand, because it's not a good look for an understudy.
