I would take "boulevard fare" to mean a breezy comedy that tries mainly to entertain rather than to push some kind of issue (other than perhaps the battle of the sexes). "The Impossible Years", "The Pleasure of His Company", "Sabrina Fair", "Barefoot in the Park" "40 Carats", etc. I think would qualify as boulevard comedies, among others. Also, possibly called the non-musical version of what was called "the tired businessman's show", something fun, not challenging, easy to take -- although there were musicals also described as such.
