You've piqued my interest. I saw the movie version of Forty Carats just once, probably in the 80's when cable TV came to the Chicago area. I don't remember too much specific about it. I was aware that the Broadway play was a huge hit with Julie Harris as the lead and Abe Burrows directing.

Liv Ullmann was an off-beat casting choice as Ann. However, the film's supporting cast was filled with some really fine veteran actors like Gene Kelly, Binnie Barnes, Nancy Walker, Don Porter, Rosemary Murphy, and Natalie Schafer.

Anyway, in my earlier post I said the film was watchable. I (probably) found it to be mildly entertaining, albeit forgettable, at the time. My local library has it for takeout so I am going to re-visit it.
