I had no idea Jay Presson Allen did a third adaptation of Barillet and Gredy. I don't know CACTUS FLOWER very well but her adaptation of FORTY CARATS is, I think, really fine work. And it's a great play even if dated. Thanks for letting me know, I would love to read it.
"Boulevard Farce" to me means derived from Feydeau. In the tradition of Feydeau even though there can be many other elements stuffed into the mix, like romantic comedy, intrigue, etc.
"Boulevard Theater" I believe carries a broader definition in France. It's like saying Broadway theater, entertainment theater, commercial theater. And it can cover a wide variety of genres. |
