I am more familiar with the term "boulevard farce." The last one I remember seeing on Broadway was A LITTLE FAMILY BUSINESS adapted from a French play by Barillet and Gredy (also responsible for the plays which were adapted into FORTY CARATS and CACTUS FLOWER for Broadway). A LITTLE FAMILY BUSINESS closed quickly, but with Angela Lansbury and John McMartin at the helm it should have done better. When I saw it, I accepted it for what it was and sat back and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
