What singleticket writes below about 40 Carats is very interesting and, like you, it's made me interested in reading it. I agree with you about 40 Carats not being a painful film to watch, or at least not too often painful, while The Impossible Years is just awful.
For starters, it was just weird that they cast Liv Ullmann, who was 33 when the film was being made, maybe turning 34 during filming. She was just 12 years older than Edward Albert, and even back then their romance must have appeared just mildly eye-brow raising.
By contrast, Julie Harris's Broadway replacements were over 50.
Obviously, more is wrong with the movie than the casting of Ullmann. |
