Thinking of Marie, who used to paper for her restaurant in the post below about Pergola, got me thinking of some of the fabulous characters working over at the TKTS booth over the years. I used to stop by (and sometimes still do) going to shows, between auditions, rehearsals, etc. Among the folks who used to work there, I became friendly with Klea Blackhurst years ago -- very friendly and talented lady. There's Paddy -- long-time entrepreneur, originally from Ireland, who's been working there for many years, always happy to talk about theater and goings on in the theater and the Broadway scene. There used to be a very sweet blonde lady with a Georgia Engel kind of voice, though I think British, would had apparently worked with Benny Hill, who used to work there as well.

The Werbacher twins, Rich and Don, who wrote the musical "What Would Esther Williams Do in a Situation Like This?" along with Don's girlfriend Lisa Bays, all used to work there. All lovely, friendly and talented people. Lisa died quite prematurely, and Don and Rich tragically within days of each other years later, and still just most likely middle-aged. They deserve to be remembered.

One of my friends from years ago, Ernie, a lovely guy, would work there when he wasn't a super (supernumerary) at NY City Opera. He unfortunately passed away from AIDS at an early age.

There was one fellow, Tom, who ended up in the naked play "Party" who like a lot of folks in primarily naked plays, seems to have transitioned over to real estate.

There were even memorable scalpers, one nicknamed a la Damon Runyon, Ricky the Rat, apparently because of his features and the way he moved. Don't know if he's around. I never talked to him, but noticed him, as he was pointed out to me early on as one I probably wouldn't want to chat with. Also the lady from "Perfect Crime" or people in her employ; I felt it was my duty as a New Yorker and as a New York theater professional to, once she or one of her paid people had papered them with that show and moved out of hearing proximity, to tell persons in line something along the lines of "for G-d's sake, see something else, especially if it's your one show in New York you'll ever see."

Some great (or at least interesting) people. I'm sure you have some of your favorites (and un-faves) over the years.
