| But the London version of Friedman’s “Merrily” was the opposite of a flop. In fact, it was a huge critical and commercial success because of what critics and the public thought Friedman did with the production and because the stars, especially Mark Umbers and Damian Humbley, were seen as charismatic. So whatever any of us may think of the filmed version, this production was a critical and commercial darling before the current Broadway incarnation. |
