Actually, I was kind of assuming that Linklater might have wanted to use all three of the leads from the current production in his film. Clearly, Radcliffe and Groff have film and television careers already and their chemistry together and with Mendez might have tipped the scales in that direction.

Platt isn't quite the golden boy anymore that he was when this film was announced. And Feldstein, aside from her real-life friendship with Platt, also isn't quite the name she was at that point either. His career was damaged, I think, by the reception of the DEAR EVAN HANSEN film and the fact that none of his other film and television projects have set the world on fire. Feldstein has yet to bounce back from the FUNNY GIRL debacle. Mescal, ironically, since he wasn't originally cast here, may be the one who people will be most interested in seeing by the time this film get released. He seems poised for the most interesting career going forward.
