Fun as some of this was, I do always find this kind of "honor" format strange. Like the KC Honors, etc, the basic idea here is that the star being feted has to sit there and watch other people recreate THEIR famous moments. Which on some level just seems awkward to me. Why thank Dick Van Dyke by redoing his famous appearances?

Now, it does seem that Van Dyke was having a great time. Or - he's a good actor and he knew that's what he was supposed to do. And I know it's all very well-meaning (even if some of the performances were rather iffy). But does anyone feel what I feel? It's as if each song was introduced by a voice-over - "and now, to perform that song we all loved when you did it in the movie, is someone else, who isn't going to do it quite as well." Odd.
