Oh, I get that, and I don't really have a better solution to do such tributes. The spirit is right, the intention is right.

But it's one thing, say, to honor a composer's work, or a choreographer's work, etc, by having others play or dance those creations. And in fact that does strongly speak to the legacy of the material. But it always feels to me that honoring the specific iconic performance of a certain song or role takes on a different feel when others get up to present them in that context. But I don't mean to make a big deal out of this either. :-)

One thing that did seem strange - how come they didn't sing his name during Happy Birthday, in the part of the song where "dear [name]" always goes?
