''Kiss of the Spider Woman's'' cast list at IMDB.com doesn't identify anyone playing Marta or Molina's Mother, but perhaps it's incomplete. Meantime, a new preview feature about the movie just appeared at VanityFair.com, which reports: ''Taking inspiration from Bob Fosse's ''Cabaret'' film, Condon also cut several songs from the stage version to avoid characters ''simply breaking out into song.'' Instead, the film flows between a poignant, realistic two-character drama inside a dark prison cell, and an old-school fantasy inside Molina's vividly imagined world.'' Condon adds that the musical sections were shot on New Jersey soundstages, while the prison scenes were shot in Uruguay: ''I wrote it as two movies, and we made it as two movies. That left us the means to make a lavish Hollywood musical - because it was only 35 minutes.'' Vanity Fair adds: ''In those 35 minutes or so, Lopez gets to unleash her full star power amid virtuosic camerawork and extravagant production design.'' |
