Condon wrote the screenplay to Chicago, and if i'm not mistaken, Marshall was hired to direct the movie based on Condon's concept and script, not the other way around.

Also while this seems very similar in how the movie approaches the musicals numbers, it is not like Chicago at all because Chicago's overlaid directorial concept served the musical... and it only required one(?) song to be cut. The only one I remember being cut is Class, but there maybe be a couple others. This concept applied to Spider Woman means that more than half the score is gone entirely.

It's absolutely not how I'd want a movie of this musical to be approached... but I'm trying to go in with an open mind to let it be it's own animal.

I have heard it's an excellent film, even if it "had" to severely cut down the score.
