Given that virtually none of the songs in the musical advance the plot or illuminate character beyond what is already in the spoken script (and taken from the movie), a movie with those songs would be a turgid bore, with rapid fire editing the only technique that could fool an audience, for a while at least, into thinking the film was progressing.
The songs of Sunset Boulevard are virtually all "stage waits".
