| The recent passing of Linda Lavin reminded me of how much I enjoyed her Tony-winning performance as Kate, the mother, in Neil Simon's ''Broadway Bound'' (1986). But I just stumbled across the trailer of the ABC-TV movie of ''Broadway Bound'' (1992), which somehow I either never knew about or had totally forgotten. Anyone else recall it? Jonathan Silverman, who played Eugene, was the only one from the original Broadway cast to reprise his role. Anne Bancroft played Kate. I wonder if scheduling prevented Lavin from re-creating her role, or if the ABC-TV movie felt it needed a bigger name, like the Oscar-winning Bancroft, to anchor it. I imagine Lavin would've loved to capture her performance for posterity. Anyway, the TV version of ''Broadway Bound'' is on YouTube. | |
