This is a bit of a tricky question, as there are a few ways to look at it! * Shortest run of a show with a Tony-winning performance: This is likely what you're after. The Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical went to Patricia Routledge for Darling of the Day in 1968. The show had a dismal run of only 31 regular performances. * Shortest run of a show, period, that won any Tony: This gets even more extreme! Father's Day (1971) closed after a single performance, yet Marian Seldes was nominated for Best Actress and won a Drama Desk Award for her role. It's worth noting that these are outliers. Most Tony-winning performances come from shows with much longer runs. But it's a testament to the power of those actors that they could create such an impact in such a short time. |
