Thanks for the answer. But I'm not quite sure exactly how the award read. Did it end with the word season or did it include the text in brackets? It wasn't until sometime in the 1970s (and not especially early in the 1970s), that the Tonys seasons and the official Broadway seasons aligned (or at least came close to aligning). For a few years in the 1960s, the Tonys started moving in that direction, but then in 1967 when the national telecasts started, it was moved back again because of when the network wanted to schedule it. As a result, the length of the 1966-1967 Tonys season was probably the shortest one ever. I can't remember offhand which network telecast the first nationally telecast Tonys and not feeling like looking it up right now. The cutoff date in 1949 was March 1. |
