What a typically ignorant and idiotic review from Jesse Green.

I especially love the part where he very falsely claims that adaptations are hard and that's why Sondheim and Kander and Ebb gave up on them.

EXCUSE ME? Two of Sondheim's final three projects were adaptations of films ("Passion"-- a Best Musical WINNER, and of course "Here We Are").

The entire review is a smarmy piece of BS, as usual where Lloyd Webber is concerned in the NYT.

I am, as most people here know, a huge Lloyd Webber fan, but not so huge that an accurate negative review inflames me... but he literally NEVER GETS an accurate review with this publication. It is patently obvious almost always that they go to every show of his just frothing to tear it apart.

Oh, no, I'm wrong. There was that GLOWING review for "Cinderella" in 2022 when it opened in London... which was then completely and utterly obliterated by one of the worst reviews of his career when the same show crossed the Atlantic. That was a really interesting 180...
