| It's entirely possible that the investment was fully recouped after the closing, and that there may even have been some profit, thanks to royalties from later productions. But, yes, I think you're right that Green made a statement that is at least somewhat misleading. Alas, the Times is often unwilling to correct errors even when you email them with reporting from the Times itself from when the events described actually happened, reporting that contradicts what the current article states. This is especially true in obituaries. I don't know if it's because everyone is overworked because the Times is understaffed nowadays and they don't ever get around to making the corrections, or if they're just sometimes unwilling to admit errors, or if they regard some of the errors as of minor importance, or if they sometimes just don't believe you, even when you provide them with documentation, including from the Times itself. I'm not sure if the Times ever really deserved to be described as "the paper of record," but if it ever did deserve that description, it no longer does. |
