Going strictly by Morgan's own recent statement, his exit from the York had nothing to do with casting diversity per se, but rather that he verbally abused a subordinate staff member, Gerry McIntyre, in a public staff meeting. This is what lead to McIntyre's resignation, which came before Morgan's exit. Morgan explained, but did not excuse this behavior, as something that happened as a result of the his struggles post-stroke and acknowledged that he probably should have planned for his own exit from the York sooner.

I wasn't there in that meeting, but I've experienced verbal abuse in the work place in my own life and there is no place for that shit. You don't treat people that way. Morgan needed to go.

I have such respect for him for keeping the York going for so many years, and I am sympathetic that his tenure ended on such a negative note, but there is absolutely no excuse for the kind of behavior that he himself described. Seems like it was past time. He needs to focus on his health and let the York move forward with new leadership.
