Could I get advice on first-time MET OPERA tickets?

Well, I will be a first-time patron. I will be accompanying a friend who is older than me and who has seen several Met Opera productions in the 70s, 80s and 90s. This will be their first time back and, most likely, their last visit, too. We'll be seeing Tosca in late September. There are plenty of seats still available, so it seems like we have some time to make our ticket purchase. If you're not a fan of this particular production, no need to let me know, as it's the only window we have available.

Ideally, we'd like to be seated just far away enough to take in the full spectacle, while being close enough to still see the performers (as more than just dots on a stage.) Fortunately, my friend still has excellent hearing and is fully able bodied, so no special needs. So, with that in mind, a few questions...

1). I assume the Met uses dynamic pricing? Do prices tend to shift as dramatically as some Broadway productions and concerts?

2). Does the Met ever offer discounts / specials and what's the best way to become aware of those? (Or, are there secondary sources, like TodayTix, BroadwayBox etc. for theatre)? Note: this is not a must -- just something I'd like to be aware of. We're not going to be totally stingy about this experience. And, we certainly won't be waiting until the week-of to make our purchase.

3). If price were not a concern, what would be your ideal spot in the theatre? Please be specific as you want. (For example... you might think the first 2/3 rows in the Orchestra are ideal, but the last 1/3 is too far back.)

4). Any sections you'd avoid for either sightlines or sound issues? (again, feel free to be super specific!)

5). Related to #3 and #4 - what are your thoughts on box seating in the venue vs. the 'main' part of each section/floor?

6). Would you say business casual (dress shirt and slacks) for men is adequate for a regular Met performance?

7). Anything else a first-timer should be aware of/consider?

Thanks!
