If you make a Met account and allow it to send you marketing emails, you might get some offers. I see one once in a while, but I think I've invited them not to send them because I get everything I want in advance. I've had a subscription in the front of the Family Circle for years, but I have little experience downstairs. I got rush tickets a couple times years ago, and they were very close but very far to the side. For a novelty and for productions I had already seen, I enjoyed that, but for a special occasion, you want the fullest experience. I'll occasionally go for the Balcony boxes in similar (to me) situations, but they'd be similarly unsuitable for you. (The ones all the way to the front can be fun for the great view directly down into the pit.)

You won't want to be that far up and back, but you might take a look at the first rows of the Balcony. It's quite a lot lower and further forward than the Family Circle despite being attached. (They're structurally like the front and rear mezzanine of some Broadway houses...you enter at the cross-aisle between them so the Balcony is down and the Family Circle is up.)

Tosca has two 30-minute intermissions. Use some of that time to sight-see. Check out the art around the lobby and views from other seating areas if you like, and be sure to go all the way down to the concourse level. There's more art, the wall of headshots of company members past and present, and the exhibit halls on either side. The elevators go to all levels (but not up/down the stairs within the levels) so there's no need to take all the stairs unless you want to.

You'll see a broad range of dress, from very dressy to very not, so wear what's comfortable to you for an evening out.
