Regarding dress: no one really dresses for the opera anymore. Slacks and a shirt is fine.
Avoid the side boxes, as you will miss a good part of the staging.
Avoid the seats under the overhangs in the orchestra, both side and rear.
I sit in the dress circle, but it's not the best for seeing the faces of the singers. One note regarding orchestra seats, depending on your size. The rake is much better in the other sections. I avoid the orchestra as my wife is not very tall and is easily blocked by anyway even a bit tall. If I didn't care about cost, I'd probably go for Grand Tier.
There are pictures available on A View From My Seat site.
One last point, regarding bathrooms. I'd plan to use the bathroom before or after the performance. While the men's room line is not terrible, the women's room lines can be quite daunting. It's true the intermissions are long, but it can be a close-run thing depending on how fast you can get out at intermission.
Oh, and don't be late. They do not seat latecomers.
