Me too. And while I'm not sure I'd vote to do it, I can get on board with awarding the top 2 voted actors in Lead and top 2 voted actors in Featured, so that we still have 4 winners and 16+ nominees.

I truly cannot support the extreme version of this where instead of of just giving the award to the top 2 in the 2 categories (Best Lead and Best Featured) they give 1 winner in the 2 categories. Acting awards for show like this have given nominations of typically 16 actors and an award to typically 4 actors. Cutting that down substantially does not do anyone any favors, and I certainly don't think it's a reasonable step "forward" in the name of being inclusive of gender-non-conforming performers. These nominations not only impact box office for the show, they impact salaries for the future, they bring careers to whole new levels and massively change/benefit the career and lives of these artists. What benefit is it to anyone to cut out so many nominees and so many winners because we're not "rethinking" the gendered categorization? They always gave 2 Lead Actor awards, and 2 Featured Actor awards. I don't see the benefit of changing that because it's not divided up into genders. In fact, being the ONE and ONLY awarded "best" actor in a list of 8 nominees makes the whole idea of awards and competition in subjective art like this even more absurd than it does to have 4 winners each in a category of 4-7 nominees.
Having gendered awards was not solely done to separate men from women... it was to give more awards and nominations, to recognize more people's work... and to have more tools to sell tickets and build reputations of actors who can sell tickets.
Why have awards at all?
